An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his records and says, "Ah, you're an engineer -- you're in the wrong place."
So, the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in.

Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After awhile, they've
got air conditioning, flush toilets. and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy.

One day, God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, "So, how's it going down there in hell?"

Satan replies, "Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there's no telling what this engineer
is going to come up with next."

God replies, "What??? You've got an engineer?  That's a mistake -- he should never have gotten down there; send him up here."

Satan says, "No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping him."

God says, "Send him back up here or I'll sue."

Satan laughs uproariously and answers, "Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?"

3D Prinded Spool Threader
I first saw a 3D printer in the early 80's. It was a Stereolithography machine the size of a stove and cost over $100k. Back then the tern was rapid prototyping not 3D printing but the technologog was amazing. Owning such a tool, or even having access to one where you worked was out of the question.
Today, anyone can afford to fabricate their own designs with even the lower end models being capable of high quality parts using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) amoung other low cost techniques. When you are new to 3D printing the first thing to do with the machine is make improvements and modifications using some of the thousands of free designs available at such sites as

Parking Sensor

Design Iteration 1
The first design was a one piece design with a buckle zone. It was thought that the spring lever on the microswitch would bend and take up any overshoot past the "parked" zone. However the user (my wife) soon destroyed that theory.

Lightbar Design

The lightbar was designed using OnShape CAD.  The case had to be printed in 2 pieces and glued together in order to fit on the build plate of the  printer. The LED light string was salvaged from an aquarium cover and the defraction lens was cut from a scrapped florecent light fixture.
